November News...

Thank you to all of the parents that have met with me to exchange information about our students on Nov. 2nd and Nov. 4th.  I'm looking forward to meeting with many more parents on Nov. 10th.  :)

We are continuing to read a plethora of texts to support growth in our reading fluency and comprehension.  We have enjoyed our study of different genres and specific texts which we use in our small groups.  The kids really enjoyed reading King Midas as an example of a myth (folktale) and connecting it back to Chocolate Touch, a super favorite of 3B.  Many of us are enjoying Jenius, a story about a guinea pig and others are still enjoying Judy Blume writing.  Some of the skills that we will be focusing on are: cause and effect, making inferences, synonyms/antonyms, comparing 2 different cultural interpretations of the same story, determining the author's purpose, and paraphrasing/summarizing.

3B students are becoming quite the authors!  We are writing for a variety of purposes.  Our present focus during Writing Workshop is narrative writing, specifically memoirs.  We are taking a closer look at paragraphs, transitions, rewriting/editing, lead sentences/bold beginnings, run-on sentences, regular and irregular verbs, and more.  Keep the pencils sharpened and encouragement flowing!

In Social Studies we are cartographers and we are in the middle of creating our own maps.  Thank you to all who worked on your Family Fire Escape Plan which ties in with our map unit.  The Fire Department is proud of so many students following through in working on these!  Continue to study the Map Vocabulary and we will take a quiz next week.

Multiplication Rock keeps ringing through my mind because we are working on multiplication.  Any extra practice you can exercise would be beneficial.  In addition, continue to practice the concepts of measuring items using a ruler...specifically measurements to the nearest 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch, 1 cm, and 1/2 cm.  Also reviewing the diffference between perimeter and area are important.

We continue to share with each other each week...Virgil was our Classmate of the Week last week and next week we will have Nathan share with us.  :)

We are looking ahead to the end of the month and how thankful we are...  Thank you to all of our 3B volunteers that have been helping us!  Thank you for supporting your child and working with them at home too!  I hope that all of our 3B families have a great month and enjoy extra family time together!

Enjoy the season-

Mrs. Bischoff
